Cristalino Nature Reserves
There are four reserves, covering a total area of more than 7,000 hectares, in a region that is an extremely high priority for biodiversity conservation. The reserves are used for research, environmental education and controlled visits. These reserves are strategically located to play a very important role, acting as a natural barrier to contain the deforestation driven by the advancing of the agricultural and real-estate frontier into the Amazon rainforest.
Projects
The Cristalino Ecological Foundation (FEC) directly supports the conservation of biodiversity in the River Cristalino region of the Amazon rainforest, in Mato Grosso state, through its management of local Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPN). Furthermore, it develops projects devoted to environmental education, the conservation of biodiversity and social and economic development. Notable among the many projects developed by the FEC, in partnership with other institutions, are: A Day In The Forest; Macroscopic Fungi in the Cristalino Nature Reserves; Environmental Study; PIPAES (Integrated Project for the Conservation and Economic Sustainability of the Gleba Divisa); Cristalino Flora; Coexistence of People and Jaguars.
