SAVE THE GROVES’ TITI MONKEY: develop a project with conservation of Groves’ titi monkey (Plecturocebus grovesi), a recently discovered species of primate that is on the IUCN list of critically endangered species and one of the 25 most endangered monkey species in the world.

Project Goals: primate behaviour observation, diagnosis of habitat restoration of fragmented forests and the creation of ecological corridors, environmental education for local communities.

We need USD 40,000 to:

– To identify the areas frequented, for carrying out ecological studies and protection of the species.
– To generate ecological data on the Groves’ titi populations, which is still unknown to the scientific community, and then make this data available to the National Primate Conservation Program.
– To use the proposed urban and rural ecological corridors to increase the connectivity between the forest fragments inhabited by the species, to increase their available range and the gene flow between the populations, as well as expanding the forested areas within the region.
– To establish new partnerships with other institutions, especially in the local production sector.
– To make new generations aware of the importance of nature conservation, using the Groves’ titi as an “umbrella” species.
– To increase the population’s knowledge about the existence and importance of conserving the Groves’ titi.
To make the local community feel part of the conservation process on behalf of an endangered species.
– To train young environmental educators to enhance the positive impact of the project on the local and regional scale.
